FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q1. Do you accept brand deals or product incentives?
A: No. Strawbridge Accessibility Limited is completely independent. We don’t accept incentives, partnerships, or rewards from product suppliers or funders. This ensures all our advice remains unbiased and in our clients and the end users best interest.

Q2. Do you offer residential home design advice?
A: No, we focus exclusively on commerical, non-residential and public-facing buildings.

Q3. Can you tell me if something is compliant with the Building Code?
A: I can give you an independent, expert opinion—but only your local Building Consent Authority (BCA) can officially certify compliance under the New Zealand Building Act 2004.

Q4. Why is your advice different from what someone with a disability told me?
A: People with lived experience offer valuable insight—but their views often reflect their personal circumstances and preferences. My advice is based on the NZ Building Code, and a holistic view which must consider a wide range of disabilities and ability levels—not just one experience.

Q5. How did you get into this work?
A: I began my career as an architectural designer. When a close family member became a wheelchair user requiring fulltime care after a stroke, I saw firsthand how many public buildings were inaccessible—even ones that were deemed to have met legislative standards. That experience was a turning point, and I’ve been focused on accessibility and making a positive change in the built environment ever since.
